“The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.” – Luke 1:35  “ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance … Each one heard them speaking in his own language.” – Acts 2:4b,6  “I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth.” – John 16:12-13a
Fifty days after his Resurrection, on Pentecost Sunday, the Lord Jesus poured out his Holy Spirit upon his disciples who were praying with the Blessed Virgin Mary in the upper room. The fearful apostles were transformed on Pentecost into dynamic witnesses of Christ. The Church was birthed on that day and her universal mission of proclaiming the Gospel to the world began. Today we ask the Holy Spirit to come down upon us anew to enlighten, guide and transform us into courageous witnesses of his love. May we be able to produce the fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.  (Galatians 5:22-23)
